What is Drywall?

For some, walking into a finished room, is an artist’s experience. It’s like going into a peaceful or serene atmosphere based on the colours they see or the decorated textured surface on the walls or ceiling. However, just underneath these layers of beauty, lay boards of … Drywall, the wonder substance.

Known in different places by names such as Gyproc, Gypsum Board, Sheetrock, Plasterboard, Wallboard, this wonder invention is said to have been invented in 1894 by George Sackett & Fred Kane and named Sackett Board. Later, in 1917, U.S. Gypsum Corporation bought the Sackett Plaster Board Company and in 1917 they introduced Sheetrock. The simplified explanation of how it is now made is that gypsum (a mineral compound) is pressed in between layers of paper of varying lengths and widths and, voila! You have drywall sheets! Relatively lightweight, user-friendly for installation, and containing fire-resistant properties.

The level of quality in your walls and ceiling in a large part depends on how your drywall installation and finishing was done. Drywall hanging, also known as drywall boarding is best done with the end goal of a proper drywall finish in sight. MUD Enterprises drywallers understand what the drywall taper needs for a quality drywall finish, and thus the drywall board is hung with the next step in mind.
